2019 Wrap-Up and 2020 Fishing Plans

My 2019 was ridiculous from a fishing standpoint. I started fishing in October 2018, so this was my first full year at it. I fished 100+ days and caught fish on 95 of those days in each of the 12 months. I landed 753 fish, the majority being wild trout in small mountain streams. I caught browns, rainbows, 5 or so subspecies of cutthroats, bull trout, redbands, bookies, and goldens.

I also caught grayling, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, bluegill, convict cichlids, goldfish, a single northern pikeminnow, jewel cichlids, and some other cichlid species. I caught fish in 81 different bodies of water (again, mostly small streams) in 4 states (Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and Wyoming). I completed the Utah Cutthroat Slam and the easiest level of the Western Native Trout Challenge, and I finished my own challenge of catching a trout in a small mountain stream in each of the 29 counties in Utah (and I’m about a quarter of the way through Idaho’s 44 counties). I bought 3 new rods and broke 2 of them. My fishing channel on YouTube went from 10 subscribers to 1,600.

I think my 2020 will be a bit more laid back fishing-wise, but it’ll include catching fish in Montana and Arizona for the first time, completing the Wyoming Cutt Slam, and finishing the Nevada Native Fish Slam. Looking forward to catching Lahontan cutthroat and whitefish for the first time. I’ll also be starting a new tenkara-related online endeavor or two. Oh, and I hope to continue posting one tenkara video per week to the YouTube channel (though I may miss a week here or there). I also plan on blogging here at TenkaraAddict.com more this year.

Lots of good stuff to come. See you out on the water!

  1. Wow!
2019 was quite a season for you!
My problem is that I don’t drive (I never have), so that limits my outings.
